Keep main navigation sections to a minimum using clear and succinct titles

Avoid long drop down menus, instead, keep information in subsections

Avoid making viewers download a document for a small piece of information, copy it into the web page

Keep the font, text sizes and heading styles we have provided consistent throughout the website

Avoid underlining text, as it may be confused with a hyperlink

Use high resolution photography, and do not steal images off Google search.

Avoid “Welcome to our Page” and reformat “Click Here” links for a more professional look and feel

Remove out of date information/dead links and “under construction” pages, it’s better to just wait until you have the content and not use placeholders

Avoid creating unnecessary pages, instead utilize tabbed controls and other modern features

Avoid using graphics programs to design layouts for web pages as graphical text cannot be scanned with a screen reader, which makes it NON-ADA compliant nor can it be translated by a browser for non-English speaking visitors

Avoid using ALL CAPS, as it interferes with translation and spell checking (also it means yelling!)

Make sure the title of your page accurately reflects the name of your school. Be sure to use the full name of the school.

Make sure the logo area has your school logo, not Kids at Hope or other logos. This area is your chance to establish a recognizable logo..use it to establish a personal connection to your visitors.

Make sure your cover image is up to date. The best thing to have here is pictures of students (with proper permissions) or a stock photo of students.  This is not an area for advertising the latest event, etc.  It should not change.  This is your brand and should be recognizable.  If it changes all the time, it’s not recognizable.
